Tibero7: Advancing the Enterprise Database Core for Mission-Critical Workloads

Tibero7 addresses these challenges by enhancing its core data processing architecture. Improvements to memory management, parallel processing, and internal processing efficiency deliver more than 30% performance improvement compared with previous versions.

Tibero7 also enhances data compression capabilities to improve storage efficiency.

TCC (Tibero Columnar Compression) compresses data at the column level, providing high compression efficiency for large datasets with repetitive values. It can reduce storage requirements by up to 50–90%, while reducing disk I/O and contributing to improved query performance.

Tibero7 also provides:

  • OLTP Compression to compress data in online transaction processing environments while minimizing performance impact
  • Index Prefix Compression to reduce index size and improve memory utilization
  • In-Memory Column Store (IMCS) to process frequently accessed data in columnar format directly in memory, improving performance for complex analytical queries and large-scale aggregations

Enhancements to the query optimizer further help deliver stable and consistent performance across diverse workloads.

 

Key Change ②: High Availability and Disaster Recovery for Continuous Operations

For enterprise systems, minimizing service disruption and data loss is critical. Unexpected failures or operational errors can directly affect business continuity, particularly in financial, public-sector, and manufacturing environments that operate 24/7.

Tibero7 significantly strengthens its high availability (HA) and disaster recovery capabilities, with the goal of minimizing RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective) toward near-zero levels.

Automatic Block Repair (ABR) automatically retrieves a healthy block from a standby database when database block corruption occurs. This reduces recovery time without requiring administrator intervention.

Flashback Database enables the entire database to be restored to a specific point in time, helping organizations respond quickly to user errors and logical data issues.

Tibero7 also supports automatic resynchronization after recovery in Active-Standby environments, helping restore the replication configuration and improve operational stability.

In addition, Snapshot Standby, Cascade Standby, and Multi-Node Standby provide greater flexibility and scalability for DR architectures, including test environments and multi-standby configurations.

 

Key Change ③: Enhanced Operational Stability for Mission-Critical Environments

Unexpected performance degradation is one of the key concerns when upgrading a DBMS. Changes to SQL execution plans or statistics can affect application response times after an upgrade.

Tibero7 provides several capabilities to help identify and mitigate these risks before they affect production.

Database Replay reproduces production workloads in a test environment, allowing organizations to validate the performance impact of an upgrade in advance.

Pending Statistics enables new optimizer statistics to be evaluated before they are applied to production.

SQL Plan Management (SPM) helps retain validated SQL execution plans and prevent unexpected plan changes from causing performance degradation.

Together, these capabilities improve not only performance but also the stability and predictability of database operations.

 

Tibero7 Technology Proven in Real-World Environments

DBMS capabilities cannot be evaluated by feature lists alone. Real-world performance, operational stability, and the ability to handle large-scale and diverse workloads are equally important.

Tibero7 has demonstrated these capabilities through deployments across various enterprise environments.

 

Seoul National University of Science and Technology: Stable Performance Under High Traffic

Seoul National University of Science and Technology upgraded its database environment from Tibero5 to Tibero7 and saw significant improvements in system performance and operations.

During course registration periods, CPU utilization had previously remained at 100% for more than an hour. After the upgrade, the overload was resolved in approximately 10 minutes.

The university also uses T-Perf to reproduce production-like workloads and validate the impact of patches in advance, improving operational stability.

It is also considering TCC (Tibero Columnar Compression) to efficiently manage large volumes of log data that must be retained over the long term.

The case demonstrates how Tibero7 can improve not only performance but also operational efficiency and data management.

 

POSCO: Improving Global ERP Performance

POSCO upgraded ERP systems operating across six global regions from Tibero6 to cloud-based Tibero7.

Following the upgrade, month-end closing performance and user-perceived response times improved by more than 50%, improving the efficiency of its global ERP operations.

The system continues to provide stable services across environments used simultaneously by large overseas subsidiaries, demonstrating Tibero7’s ability to support core enterprise workloads.

 

Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service: 95% Faster Response Times

Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service migrated its Employment and Industrial Accident Insurance Total Service to a cloud-based MSA (Microservices Architecture) environment powered by Tibero7.

The organization leveraged OLTP Compression, Index Prefix Compression, and TCC to improve storage efficiency and optimize performance for large-scale transaction workloads.

As a result, average response time decreased from 4.44 seconds to 0.19 seconds, achieving more than 95% performance improvement.

The case demonstrates how Tibero7 can improve response performance and maintain stable services even under high traffic conditions.
